5-mile ride for surfers in Alaska
Yes. Five miles. I love Turnagain Arm, just south of Anchorage. Take a look at it in Google Earth. It is a long arm with huge, mostly brown mountains on both sides for miles.
It has the right long, narrow enough shape for tidal bores to form. A tidal bore is the tide coming in fast enough that you cannot outrun it, given that you are on sand or rocks on the tidal flat. So it makes sense that a surfer might be able to ride it. They are doing it.
