Good news. They were common, but declined due to being caught in gill nets, pollution and noise. But they have recovered in the past ten years.
I saw a pair of harbor porpoises off Seattle while boating near West Point in February, 2008. I assumed they were dolphins, but did research and discovered that here we have mostly porpoises and few dolphins. I probably saw harbor porpoises; my view was close, but brief.
