Since the start of the Great Recession Texas has added far more jobs than California which is larger. One million versus 24,900. By Percentage 9.5 versus 0.16. !
One state has succeeded being prosperous. The other has failed.
What is the difference? Texas is pro-energy. Right-to-work. Is friendly to business. Has much, much cheaper electricity. California is becoming like 3rd world - the very well off along the coast while the interior is much poorer and losing people.
